Our Story
Open Jar Studios was founded in 2019 by Jarvis McLeod, inspired by a concept he first encountered in college—the flea-in-a-jar experiment. In the study, fleas jump only as high as the lid allows; once removed, they still stay limited by the memory of the cap. That idea stuck. For Jarvis, “Open Jar” became a metaphor for limitless creativity—an intentional play on both the experiment and his own name.
With a mission to unlock potential in overlooked places and creatives, Jarvis launched Open Jar Studios to disrupt the scarcity mindset in Dallas-Fort Worth’s film and advertising scene. After running a brick-and-mortar studio in Richardson, TX, for three years, he evolved the company into a lean, remote-first creative agency with trusted studio partners.
Backed by years of experience as a freelance cinematographer, photographer, and designer, Jarvis brings deep storytelling instincts and executional range to every project. He studied Radio, Television, and Film at the University of North Texas, with a Marketing minor, and by 17 had already screened a short film at the Dallas International Film Festival and Texas Black Film Festival as an International Baccalaureate Art and Film student in high school.
Jarvis has worked behind the camera on major productions—operating jibs and handhelds for live broadcasts, directing photography for Zeus Network and BET, and contributing to national campaigns for brands like Chick-fil-A and Jack in the Box. He also helped raise over $7 million in private capital for an oilfield services firm through targeted investor marketing strategies. He brings a background in B2B sales, alternative investing, and years of experience as a Retirement Benefit Specialist—giving him a unique, ROI-driven perspective that sets him apart.
Today, Open Jar Studios produces high-ROI video campaigns for mid-market B2C brands across food, beverage, apparel, SaaS, and consumer products—driving results across YouTube, TikTok, and Broadcast TV. It’s more than content. It’s creativity without a lid.
